- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a code from your phone or authenticator app in addition to your password when logging in. Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Security and Login > Use two-factor authentication to activate it.
- Strengthen your password: Use a strong, unique password that is at least 12 characters long and includes a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using personal information like birthdays or names in your password. You can change your password under Settings & Privacy > Settings > Security and Login > Change Password.
- Manage your privacy settings: Regularly review your privacy settings to control who can see your information and posts. You can adjust these under Settings & Privacy > Settings > Privacy. Here are some key areas to consider:
Who can see your future posts? Choose “Friends” or a more restrictive option to limit who sees your new content.
Review your “About Me” section. Decide what information you want publicly visible.
Manage who can send you friend requests. Consider restricting this to friends of friends or people you know in person.
Limit who can see your friends list and other information.
- Be cautious about what you share: Think twice before sharing personal information, photos, or anything you wouldn’t want others to see.
- Beware of scams: Don’t click on suspicious links or share information in messages from unknown individuals or sources.
- Log out of Facebook when you’re finished using it. This is especially important if you’re using a public or shared computer.
- Keep your software updated: Ensure your browser and Facebook app are updated to the latest versions to address security vulnerabilities.
- Review your login activity: Regularly check your Security and Login settings to see where and when your account has been accessed. If you notice any suspicious activity, take immediate steps to secure your account, such as changing your password and enabling 2FA.
